Default Penn 704Z

I was online just checking prices of reels, received a price for a Penn 704Z. $104.99 plus shipping comes out to $112.94. Is that a good price for the 704Z.

thanks,

danny

Danny

Its reasonable.
You can check the price in your local tackle shop. You may save on the tax and shipping. It wholesales for 85 bucks. I bought one from my local shop for 95 bucks. No tax and spooled with 300 yards of Ande. Some shops take care of the regulars. But Generally they sell for $99 to $110 not including tax. The conversion kit sells for 10 bucks.
The 706 is bailess and harder to find. about 10 bucks more.

Hi1 Jim:

spoke to my local tackle store guy & he recommends the Quantum Boca 50 reel. great for surf fishing. Is this a good reel?

A friend picked one up and it crapped out on him on the first trip. Antireverse bearing decided not to work anymore.
Maybe it was just a lemon but based on Quantums history with low end crap I wouldn't do it.

Maybe it's just the cynic in me but whenever a salesperson (in this case shop owner) tries to talk me into something I wonder if he gets a better markup on it over what I actually came in for. (yea, I know, I'm pretty bad but I'm a salesman and I know we can't be trusted ;) )

Default quantum boca

Hi! Sudsy:

I originally wanted the penn704Z for the lamiglass salmon rod but when I put the Shimano 6500 bait runner on the rod it was out of balance. He told me that Penn704z is just as heavy as the shimano so he told me about the Quatum boca reel. which is more money than the Penn.
the Quantum boca cost $129.99 & Penn 704Z $110 spooled. I just might buy a Okuma Avenger.

thanks,

danny

I agree, a 704 size reel on a salmon rod is not going to be a very good match.

I have a Daiwa 2600 SS Tournement on my salmon rod and I love it.
It hasn't seen a salmon in many years (best one on this rig was 35#, so it can obviously handle big fish) I put a whooping on summer schoolie bass to 15# with the setup.

The only problem is it doesn't like getting dunked in sand filled waves.
