Fished GC for a couple hours this am. Got bait quick and easy. Had my line snap on 3 fish. Must be some sort of flaw. It's brand new 20lb big game and I was babying it. I guess I'll be switching to power pro. Between that and the white caps after tide change I had my ass kicked today.

Ouch ... that's not cool man. Maybe getting caught on something in water ? Never had an issue with it, always check for Knicks ... as I'm sure you already do.

It was pretty windy at 6am this morning. Made it chilly.

Get em' tomorrow.

Not a clue man. I check my line and pole guides religiously. I had a similar issue about 5 years back with 25lb. Regardless, new line has to go on.
One of those fish could have been the 40"+ ....lol or not.

PowerPro is what I use. Fifty pound test ties to a barrel swivel via a Palomar knot. On the other end of the barrel swivel I tie my leader made from 50# test Seaguar fluorocarbon.

Got my Fisrt ever today, and then another. Both on live herring.

Thanks for all the information and the spirit guys and girls!

I know it's normally very good stuff. I've used it for years and only had one other issue in the past. My knots were/are fine and never slip. Just a clean break. I've gone over everything and it has to be a bad batch. It breaks fairly easy by hand. Oh well. Just chalking this day as a loss. I'll respool and hit it hard tomorrow.

Fished just north and south of Catskill all day.....we had 4 short runs and lost them. Fish are hitting very sluggish and mouthing/playing with the bait. Got hits on both live and chunk. Wind and waves were nasty till about 5 pm then calm till 10pm. Marked lots of big fish from the bottom and up around 10 ft.

CONGRATS on your Stripers ... it's a great feeling for sure.
And not just one, but you got two ... and the season is just kicking in.

Sizes ?

The first was 16lbs, the second was 20 lbs.. Last year I bought a fancy scale/measuring tape. I never caught a striper last year so I never used it. Well,I found out that it is just a scale, no tape! So I could not measure it. The big one was real close to 40" but I couldn't be sure so I let it go. I took some pics on my boat. Today I'll use the tape and pictures to figure out how big they were. Also had a monster get away. I'll try to post pics.....
