Hey doc- always like reading your posts- what set up do you use when you are fishing with bloods?

Thanks!

I use a standard fishfinder rig with a 2 or 3 oz wt and about 4 ft leader and drift it in the strike zone which is usually about 15-20 ft down in 38 fow.

Did my morning hour pre work trip. Probably last one for a bit. Managed three fat fish. 37", 35" and 38.5". Be cautious out there with lots of debris and more to come after the rain today I'm sure.

Thanks Doc - how about the hooks? I use a 30-40 lb test leader on my set up

I use 5/0 or 6/0 circle hooks and leave a bit of the worm tail dangling. I use a 50 lb test mono leader and set the sinker at 15-20 feet and drift. Depending on current i will use a 1-4 oz sinker. Good drift lines down there are the east side of the channel south of the bridge down to the oil tanks in 38 fow. Also drifting under the bridge east of the channel is quite productive. Unlike many snobs up here most down there will help you find the fish.

I am anxious to get any reports for the Newburgh area. It is really the only place I can get to and spend time of the water. I am hoping the action is hot and heavy around there.

Where is the line on the river where you use herring vs bloods?

Anyone - feel free to chime in
Baha -
From my experience I find the line is in the Poughkeepsie / Hyde Park area. South is the worms and north of that is the herring. The DEC has a voluntary fish logging program which is very good (that I participate in) and for participating, you get a copy of all the data. The data also seems to agree.

AnalGlaucoma - thanks for the information

Doc Z - I see you answered several inquiries - thank you too

Great when fisherman share info so we all get a crack "at the big hook-up".

Tight lines to all !!!

Freddie / all
Having a radio on the river is a very good idea for safety and for fishing. Many of us share information and I have been in almost emergency situations where the radio has saved my tail!!!

In the Newburgh area I have tried:
Bloods
Sands
Eels
Rubber eels
Surgical tubing umbrella rigs
Hearing
Sardines
Clams
Rawhide
Pig Tails
Various shad lures

And in the Newburgh area, sands and bloods work the best for me!

Launched in Greene County this am to sit in the rain till noon. Bait was the easiest I've seen it yet. Unfortunately, more bait means more choices for the stripers. One quick run and drop. Nothing in my net today.

Thanks for all the info. I will tell my friend to load up on the sands and bloods for my trip to the far reaches of Newburg Bay! And is New burg spelled with or without an h on the end? My spell check doesn't recognize either.

Newburgh, NY.

Be careful if you go into the city....very rough place outside of the marinas and restaurants right on the shore.
