Went down to Newburgh today and got the new starter in and my buddy got the call his wife was on her way to the ER so we turned around and went home. Guy coming in fished all morning with no luck.....cold, windy, rainy. Back out Friday.

Went 1-2 today. Got this one from shore, near Albany, on live herring. 31" nearly 15lbs. Best one for me this year so far. 2 hours after high tide peaked.

Put in an hour on the water before work and put one 38" fish in the boat. Bait has gotten much easier.

Fished a couple hours this morning and got a 30" and a 36" both on live. Bait was pretty easy to scap up.

Took the boat out for a couple hours this am. Stoolied in 6 herring and landed a 35". I would have stayed longer but it got pretty gnarly after tide change.

Doc
Ditto to Fyshh Trap comment on your buddy's wife. Hope all is AOK

I am anxious to get any reports for the Newburgh area. It is really the only place I can get to and spend time of the water. I am hoping the action is hot and heavy around there.

Where is the line on the river where you use herring vs bloods?

Anyone - feel free to chime in

Newburgh is loaded with schooling stripers.....bloods and sandworms worm best there.........never had any luck with herring. Get out ASAP.

Hey Doc, my buddy lives in Peekskill and we plan to go from there up to Newburg the weekend of 5 14. Should I even bother bringing some sweet Albany herring on ice?

You can always try some but better make sure you have blood worms and drift them between 15-18 feet. You will mark fish on the channel floor but don't waste your time...........they don't feed off the bottom down there like they do up here. I'm pretty sure we will be out there on that day........look for my boat........Veronica Rose.........or hail me on channel 68 on the radio.

OK will look for you. Don't have a radio. Have you ever tried other salt water baits down there like clams, squid or shrimp? How about a blood or sand with a nightcrawler kicker?
