Started yesterday at the sound bridge, marked a lot of fish but 0 strikes. Saw one nice fish caught. Did foul hook a nice catfish. Trolled the powerlines with nothing, Chowan bridge with nothing. Tried one last place between the powerlines and mouth of Roanoke that usually has fish, nothing for a while but finally saw some birds working about 50 yds away, caught 6 right outside of them in about 30 minutes. Only 1 keeper but good to know they are that far West this early.

Bites came on green back baits. They were only hitting one bait, green back Yozuri. Switched out two more baits, green back Stretch 10 and a green back Rapala and they all got hit.

On the west end of the Chowan bridge the other day my depth finder was lit up with fish stacked on top of each other where it drops off to about 25 ft or so. We dropped some jigs down to them for about 15 minutes but never got a strike. Any ideas what they were?

Was thinking possibly gar but they usually aren't picky about what they eat.

could it have just been bait or white perch ???????????? We caught several gar at the bridge this summer but they weren't really schooled up..

No on the bait or perch. Probably just gar. There was a pile of them though, stacked up. Was surprised we didn't pull any of them up when jigging.

Beautiful weather this past weekend. Super calm waters too. The only thing missing was the fish!
