Default baitfeeder spinning reels?

What are the advantages/disadvantages for using a baitfeeder reel for both surf fishing as well as boat fishing?

Advantages: When fishing a large bait such as an adult menhaden, you can let it swim with the school until a bass picks it up. When a bass picks up your bait, he won't feel resistance.

Disadvantages: ...can't think of a single thing...

Bought a Spinfisher V 4500LL last year & love it..I fish from shore with 20lb Power pro super8(timber color) but wouldn't use braid w/live herring as they will rat nest your line.Learned that the hard/expensive way with shiners/saw bellies fishing for large mouths!!

I bought a pair of Okuma Epixor 80 baitfeeder reels. I love them. They were decent priced, but they really are solid.

Agreed on the Okuma. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the handled. The Epixor bait runner model comes in a variety of sizes. I like the EB-80. I paired that with a Fin Noir 50lb spinning rod. The reel comes with a spare spool, so one spool has 50lb powerpro with a 50lb fluorocarbon leader for stripers, while the other spool has 80lb powerpro with an 80lb fluorocarbon leader if my friends feel like looking for football tuna. The combination casts like a dream. But, the reels definetly need to be sprayed down after each use.
