Default new to striper fishing

Hello, I have some gear that was given to me and I was wondering if I could use this for striper fishing from a boat in the Raritan bay. I have a conventional reel (Penn squall levelwind) with 30 lb braided line on it. I also have a Tsunami 6'6" rod (15-40 lb rating) to go with it. My other option is an Okuma epixor eb65 or an okuma epixor ef65 spinning reel with a Penn 7' rod (15-15lb rating) with no line on it yet. Do you think a size 65 reel is too large? What would you recommend to use? Line, hooks, rigs ect? Thanks for your time and knowledge, Scott Nazareth, PA

The Squall combo sounds perfect...wish someone would give me gear like that. The 65 size reels are a little larger than I like to use - I prefer the 40 and 50 size. I have braid on all my reels, and only use circle hooks for bass.

Welcome to the forum and good luck this season!

Don't let the 65 size turn you off from using it.

Give it a shot, you will find out quickly if you like it or not.
