Default Trolling- What to look for

After reading about the success people are having using tube and worms while trolling I immediatly went out and bought a few Tman tubes. I have not trolled alot. Any suggestions on what I should be looking for? I know a couple reefs close to where I live. What other types of structure should I be on the look out for when trolling? (in long island sound, CT side)

Look for structure, rocks, reef poles, etc. where water will funnel bait through helps. But when trolling the tube go as sloooooooooow as you can. This is what I've learned as I am new to this aswell.

Good Luck!

During Spring/fall work channel edges. During summer work structure or artificial reefs. Stripers love current so try to find current and of course look for diving birds.

I like to troll a tandem bucktail.

I like to troll between 1.5 - 3kts.
Work areas of structure. Make sure you have a good map of the area to know the bottom contours.
This site here has the NOAA map for your area. Look at it and learn it before you go forth. http://njsaltfish.com

2.5 to 3.0 kts seems to be the magic speed for us.

I am new to striper fishing and I also have similar questions.

It seems from what I'm reading the key to trolling is getting the bait running at a targeted depth. For the Lake I am on (Lake Hartwell) the reports are saying 50 feet.

This will be almost impossible for me without buying some new gear. Looks like I'm gonna need a down rigger or two.

This weekend I'm going to try a #1 sea strike planer that will only go to about 12 feet. I'm worried this will not catch anything, but I will give it a go as this will be my first striper outing and I just want to get some experience on the water.
