The amount of people with under 5 post is unbelievable it seems folks are just joining to see if they can win a reel.
what are the rules? it should be active members IMO
Hi Bob. That was brought to the table (by me and some others), but ultimately it was thought that it should just be for everyone, cause come people might get offended or pissed if it was just for people with a certain amount of posts. Maybe its fairer this way? I dont know for sure.
But I hope that if someone who doesnt really participate here wins, they will atleast come back and maybe post pics of some nice fish they catch with the reel they win, or atleast offer up a few stories or reports icon_thumleft.gif
thats what I thought, I also thought that it really wasn't fair to members who participate everyday of the year. and I kinda felt guilty for signing up. not being a member that had 100 post yet.
jim was talking to me about that one night while fishing. some guys won something (pic contest) i can't remember who won all of the tica reels but one or two dropped off the earth. just makes you wonder. alot of people are shy and don't post and you can clearly see alot of em are checking in to see what is going on by how many views are in some threads., with the regulars we post comments often but some of these ghosts are not interactive (till you give something away) jb is right though. maybe someone will win and post (one day)
I was thinking the same thing Bob but then I figured that hopefully we'll at least get a good portion of these guys to start participating in the forum and I won't feel so bad about it. Hopefully it works for the better. Just wait and see i guess.
angry4.gif It probably wouldn't piss me off so much if there wasn't so many jacka$$es signing up and posting nothing but "Its mine" all over the freakin joint as many times as they want. Ban stupid people, I say. If you can't figure out how to put your one solitary damn post in the right spot you got no business participating. angry4.gif
yeah, does seem a little unfair. I know I haven't been very active lately, but I at least check in from time to time and throw my two sense in, but I see both sides of it, its also a promotional tool for the site (even if that isn't the way it was intended), the more the merrier I always say, GL to everyone.
I kinda take a different spin on it,i wont register so someone new to the sight has a chance (besides i own enough crap already) people joining to just win a reel are missing out on a great informitive sight that covers a wide and diverse area, you have some knoweleage availabe from this sight to cover just about any condition or part of the country... once here they may just hang around long enough to realize a good thing... My .02
True Roc, it is attacting a lot of people to the site. Maybe some of them will realize that this site has a lot more to offer than just occasional gear giveaways. Maybe some of them will stick around and become good members, some of them will probably stick around and be Bassy Fergussons, half of them are probably the same guy registering under different names to increase his chances (taking advantage of the site and diluting the contest for people who play by the rules, contribute to the site, and would be truly greatful if they won something).
Any way you look at it there are good and bad sides to it. Hopefully it will turn out to be more good than bad.

LOL. Bassy disturbed his way out of here, and that was his goal. He found a new home.
But dont worry about repeat/multiple registrants trying to go incognito so they raise their chances of winning, I am watching all registrations and IP's like a hawk icon_thumleft.gif
I have not fished in years & a couple of years ago while on vacation I took my kids fishing & that was it I am back fishing. I am very new to surf fishing so it is hard for me to offer any kind of advice. The few post I have is related to what type of equipment I need to buy but I look at this site everyday to learn something new. I still have not caught anything in the surf yet but I am not giving up.
P.S. I am 51 yrs old & trying to learn how to surf fish since I love the beach. So even if I do not catch anything it's still great just to be on the beach!!!
Right on Danny! I was hooked the first time I laid eyes on this site. There's so much great content here, great members, the moderators and Admins are top notch. I didn't get a thing done at work the week after I found this site.
Don't be afraid to jump in and ask questions. I've learned as much from topics that were started with a simple question as I have from topics that were started by one of the gurus. How? Because even a simple question will many times lead to good discussions and the more experienced guys are sure to chime in with good answers,, and that is a good contribution. That's what it's all about.
All I'm sayin is, that I dislike the idea of someone just using the site for personal gain and not puttin anything back. It's like cyber poaching to me. I couldn't care less if I win any gear in any of the contests,,, I'd just hate to see the stuff go to 'Poachers'. I'd be thrilled to see someone new to the site and to striper fishing, who is genuinely wanting to learn and become a good sportsman, win a great reel. That'd be awesome! I know first hand from this fall how much it sucks to have the only cheap reel you could afford shoot craps on you when you have a fish on the line and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
I agree that it is wrong just to register to win a reel but there will always be people who will take advantage. I have in a short period of time have learned alot on how to read a beach etc., what fishing gear is good but those lamiglass surf rods are just a little more than I want to spend at this time but I know I will eventually buy one.
P. S. I have also been spending alot of time on this web site @ work. I am at work right now Ha! Ha!. Great site great people.
thanks,
I agree with Danny and appreciate the patience and sharing of all the
experience out there on the site. I am brand new to the striper scene at 58 and now am gearing up for an assault on the Mid Hudson next spring. I am one of the "lurkers" because I don't have a lot to contribute...YET! The site gets a good look every day from me trying to glean know-how.
A new reel would be a boon to my efforts and surely attach me for life to this site and it's great admin's. icn___clap.gif Thanks for keeping the door open for the newbies.
Lobster hello.gif Glad to see you are logged in without any probs! icon_thumleft.gif
Yesah, this site was made to be a haven for newbs and those who found it hard to "assimilate" on other boards lol. Hopefully one should never feel like they cant post for whatever reason, as that is our main goal
New members are what keeps a site growing and it is a good thing. but post questions and don't be afraid to put your 2 cents in. it is all good
remember the only stupid question are the ones not asked. Asking questions keeps the forums alive and you should never say you don't know it is mostly opinions anyways everyone does thing a little different from the next so ask away and learn from asking.
Well said Bob icn___clap.gif icn___clap.gif icn___clap.gif
If I may also add, I have been asked questions in the past related to banned members. All I can say is that good members, whether they be long time loyal members or "newbies", they are all more important to us than any disturber looking for attention, and looking to get a rise out of people. This is why we are much quicker than just about every board out there to stifle Disturbers and ban spammers. We've seen seen it countless times on other boards over the years, and we just arent going to put up with it here. The majority means more here than a few who may choose to be skunks and try to wreck it for everyone else. It takes alot to Staff a message board, but it makes it alot easier on us and the good members here when the bad apples are chucked, instead of allowing the problem to persist and become worse.
Thats why the MEMBERS here are allowed to vote on any individual who may get out of line. We allow you as a member to have a voice.
