Not even close....spawning is just getting started for the masses.

I definitely agree there. I've had some hooks bend out with 25 lb, but they were light duty hooks.

Question...how far north do the stripers spawn?

I've seen some spawning up in Castleton but the majority takes place from Newburgh to Kingston.

Absolutely ..... I'm cheap and never spend tons of money on gear and I've caught plenty of big fish and never had any issues. If the drag is set right the fish will take line before any tackle gives out.

I tested my Gammy's from 10 years ago and they bend in a vice whereas the new ones snap. I'm pretty sure mass production has them cooling them off too fast and making them bridle. Pretty much any fish over 40 lbs will break a Gamagatsu.
You've mentioned the Trokar hooks a few times in the past. I didn't realize that they made hooks large enough for stripers. Before switching to Gamakatsus years ago, I always bought the eagle claw hooks - mainly because they are American made.

I was not able to accompany my buddy, "everyday is Saturday Danny" since I had to work and he is retired. Anyway, here is a nice report for all. He launched on his pontoon around 7:30 from Newburgh on Wednesday. Fished south of Bannerman from 8 to 3. Total catch 15 stripers including a 34" and a 43"/30lb female, pictured above. fished 15 to 17 feet down in 30 to 40 foot depth. One taken at full slack and one taken about an hour or so into the incoming tide. Action is definitely picking up. Tight lines!!

Wow what a trophy!!! I don't care if it's a 53 pound female it won't be staying on my boat.

Am I the only one having the worst season ever? I have went from averaging 20+ a season to a big fat zero. Granted I ain't got as much time as other seasons but I got out a good 8 times and have over 50 hours in. Fishing Albany area as I always do, two buddies I fish with each got one but no size to them, both under 10lbs.

Hoping this heat didn't warm the waters to quick in New Windsor/Cornwall area. Would like to get a week or two in before the spawn and move out
