Nice fish. I was in that area this morning as well. Caught 2 smaller ones on chunk. Bait wasn't that easy to get.

Fished Marlboro today 9am till 11pm. Good bite on incoming tide from 9am to noon. Then the schools thinned out and it was spotty. The bite got better around 9pm again.......ended up with 16 fish for the day. Water temp went up to 58.5 then dropped to 56 at night. The fish were steady on the east edge of the channel but no solid schools. Oddly we saw a very large 40+ lb female spawning opposite the first buoy from White's Marina in the channel in 60 fow.........it was awesome to see but not good as the eggs will not survive under 60 degree water temps. We also saw fish marks darting off the channel floor which is males chasing females up through the water column. This full moon has them active and the bite will pick up over the next few days. Back out a 5am. The largest was 32" 12 lbs and most were in the 15-28 in range with a few dinks.

The fishing lit up today........Fished Marlboro in the morning and Newburg in the afternoon and the fish were active and hungry. We ended the day with 28 total. Many fish right on the 28 in mark but several in the low 30s with the biggest one a fat 28lb 38in cow full of eggs. Lots of spawning starting. Marlboro water temp was 57.5 and Newburgh Bay was 59.5. Back out in a few hours.

Nice fish. Been hot around my area too. Of course work is in the way. Got the weekend off and the weather takes a dump again. Maybe next week I can get out

5/12/17 Newburgh by Dennings was on fire. From 9am to 1pm I managed to catch 10+ 30 inch fish with 2 females weighing 20 and 22 pounds. A bunch of males weighing from 12 to 18 lbs. All on blood worms. One of the females had 2 males swimming behind her when she came up. Water temp hit 61..my father caught about 10 and I picked up my buddy around 2 and he managed to catch 5+ fish as well.

5/11/17 I need to shout out Doc Z...he put me on my biggest striper to date. 38 inches 28 lb female. Caught by whites marina.
Doc Z is an awesome fisherman. From the words of wisdom and knowledge to the genioristy of spending his time to pick me up and take me fishing has made him a great friend of mine. I am forever thankful that i do not sit on the shore and catch perch and catfish with bloodworns anymore. Thanks for lifting the lever for me!

After I caught her I went home, ate and came back out on my boat with my dog and my father.. we saw crazy spawning activity . We saw at least 15 females getting pushed to the surface with two of them within 20 feet of my boat! Look at the fish finder pictures! I caught 8 fish. 3 of them I caught with no sinker on with 14 feet of line out in a very slight drift. Blood worms in Newburgh by the bridge.

We are privileged to fish during the SB run up the Hudson please give them space when spawning its nice to witness but do it from a distance . If you spend some time on the water with the knowledge that is freely given on this site you are catching plenty of fish ,give them a break . My second suggestion is handling of the fish as little as possible is best to release on the side of the boat using a de hooking tool ,we donít need to net every fish then spend time taking photos of every fish caught as you and the fish look the same . Understandable non fishing people love pictures but we should explain why its not the best for the fish to stay out of the water to long as they are stressed enough from the great fight they gave us then spend a few minutes reviving them .Next week is looking great good luck and enjoy this wonderful opportunity .

A nicer chunk of time in Newburgh yesterday. We fished from 3-7 for the whole outgoing tide. It was flat and sunny at 3, 10 minutes later the wind started blowing and waves started rolling.

We went south away from the crowds first. On the second spot we caught 4 schoolies, up to about 18". We grabbed a jacket by the dock and headed north near the crowds. There were a few schoolies caught but slow for us. We went further north and not long after we had some drag pulling with my cousins 8lb striper. At the same time, another rod was hit with a schoolie near the bottom. The rods were set with 1 oz at 34' and the other a crank from the bottom in 32 FOW. The larger one hit a dead week old BW.

Damn, not sure why the pics show up sideways...
