launched my kayak yesterday around 6pm and drifted out towards the shipping channel, got caught in a feeding frenzy id say hundreds of stripers at the surface surrounding me splashinground it was awesome. big oil barge rolled thru and churned everything up right after i got on top of them and had to make a great escape. must have gotten about 20-30 casts off before bailing using buck tails, they were taking it hard every cast but i just couldn't set the hook - any suggestions? can't wait to get back out there.

Hooks I was on the beach and I think I seen you, were you with another yacker out there? We hit NOTHING at all from the beach... Hit a blue last night a little south of where you were. Seems like they are staying out in deeper water away from my reach. Frustrating is not the word!!! Havent hit a striper in 2 MONTHS! UGH!!!

FINALLY!!!!! A BASS!!!!!! Hooked into a nice 17 pounder last night on a bunker chunker. Bunker pods were popping all over the place from 3PM to at least midnight, they finally started to get hit around 9 which is when I hooked into my bass.... Unfortunately I gut hooked him but I took him home for a nice mothers day dinner for my mom. When I cleaned him out he was really a really clean fish but the stomach was empty... which I found to be a little weird with all the bunker in the water. Maybe he regurgitated whatever he had in his belly during the fight, which I may say was pretty intense for a 17lb fish. He had my reel screaming on his 3 runs. Beautiful fish that I wiss I could have let go but I thanked him for his meat and ended it quickly, no fish will ever suffer with me at the end of the rod!

Another Striper!!! So I decided to try a different spot on Staten Island and finally found my groove! Hit a nice 15 pounder last night (which I gave a kiss to and sent her back on her way) and a few blues. Another guy was live lining and hit what looked to be almost 20 pounds. Tons of bunker out there which always keeps me on my toes, especially when I see them getting hit hard!
