Default Fishing Log Software - FishersLog

This is my first post here, but I've probably met some of you from being the Surf Editor at noreast.com. I'm now a sponsor on this site. I've kept fishing logs on and off for 35 years. I've relied on them heavily to keep track of when/where/how fishing-related things have happened. Besides helping me catch fish on a consistent basis, they're nice to look back on to relive the past experiences. Up until last season, I kept my logs in notebooks. They're precious to have, but impossible to find anything in. I often know the approximate year something significant happened, but I have to wade through a pile of pages to find what I'm looking for. My day job is in software development, so I decided to write a fishing log program during an offseason. After the initial development, myself and a couple other fishermen used it for a season, then I refined it in the following offseason. I "launched" it 6 weeks ago, and it's selling way better than I'd thought it would at this point. I kept the price at about what we pay for a good (plastic) surf plug, so that helped. The program is not specific to any area, and is good for freshwater too because I also fish largemouths. I've been meaning to post something here about it, but was waiting until I had demonstration videos ready. I just added those to the website yesterday. The website is http://www.fisherslog.com Any feedback about the program's content is appreciated.

Hi John.

I read your book - twice. Season on the edge, loved it. Thanks. You signed a copy for me at a show a few years back.
Any chance you would be willing to sell your personal log?

Great idea. I just purchased the software, sight unseen.
Thanks.

Wow, looks to be a sweet program. Will be downloading the free trial later, and hopefully purchasing the full version if i like it.

Thanks Jim. Yeah, I remember meeting you, I think in Jersey. Thanks for the kind words on the book.

As for my personal log, that version of the program would cost much more than $19.95! Most of the good spots have coded names anyway, even in my notebooks :-)

Thanks John

I entered my first entries into the logs. What I particularly like is the ability to add several locations within a day each with comments for barometer and or wind shifts. The readout summary is perfect.
One thing I would like to see added in an uprade (if you dont mind the suggestion) is the tide links. They call for High, low, high slack, low slack.
I would'nt mind an dropping tide or flooding field.
I added them in the field comments.

There is a link on the header of the site at the very top of the pages

Thanks Jim!
The reason I don't have ebb and flood is that we so often fish across a slack during a trip, so a single entry wouldn't work on a trip, and then things would start getting kindof complicated.
Thanks for getting those youtube vids embedded. I wasn't sure how to do that on this board.
Where the program gets fun is after you have a bunch of trips entered and you can start running the analysis tools on them.

I've always wanted to have an online fishing log but I always worry about how private they actually are.

I'd never want one that's online. I wouldn't be so worried about the privacy, I'd be more worried that the site would go out of business for whatever reason and the data would go with it. This happened last year with a site that was up for about 4 years. Then they put up a message that said the service would no longer be available.
FishersLog isn't online. It runs and stores its data on the users computer.

Hey everyone, after doing a Google search the other day for a fishing log template I found a link to one of the most amazing fishing sites on the internet: stripers247

The link was to this exact thread and after clicking on the link I was a bit hesitant to spend $20. Well, today on another forum the same program was recommended to me so I said "What the heck?" and downloaded it.

I've only logged in one trip so far but I can tell you right now, this is well worth every dollar I paid for it. For the first time in 6 years I really think I'm gonna keep the log book that I've been promising myself to start.

It's starting to get cold on the striper coast so I figured a friendly bump was needed so more people could see this awesome program...it will definitely give you something to do this winter.

Tight lines
