Looking to get the season goining and I am wondering if there are any signs of stripers off the beaches of Mass. yet?
I am particulary interested in the North Shore locales like Plum Island.
IT'S TOO EARLY FOR BLUEFISH.... those NEVER show @ PI until mid June.. and those are lil rats... Big blues never show before July here ( PI) it's just too cold...
there are a few hold over bass hanging around... but dont look for any Migrants until the first week of May.
you need to fish out a little deeper than usual.. Speckled aprin has them... the humps on Whale back do as well...and just about any peakon Jeffeies has them...
Thanks roccus. we tried all the usual suspects including the IOS.
It was windy and forecast to get a bit sporty so we didnt venture out to far.
Atleast we got the first run of the season out of the way and the boat ran great!
There was a pilot whale feeding on something at hampton shoal ledge. What ever it was it was trying to get the hell out of the water when that whale came up.
last monday i tried several spots inshore and around the IOS.....natta. then made it out to jefferies and it was haddock galore. some very small cod and pollock but thats it.....it will get better soon!
Bass have shown up along the beaches and in the river... Last Sunday morning I took 6 ..18-20" fish that were shadowing a herring schools before the pod dissapeared..
good to know! i probally wont concentrate on bass till mid/late may, early i'm looking for ground fish to fill the freezer so i can play catch and release with stripers later...
roc....true but i'm not lucky enough to live as close as you, so for me its weekends and the occasional day off. wish i had your schedule!
