Title New Hybrid / Wiper Nevada and World Line Class record
Description This was sent to me from Manny Luftglas "gone fishin for Hybrids"
Dan Hannum gave me permission to publish it.

A week ago someone broke my Nevada State Record. My old record was
18.8.lbs. New record is 22.22 lbs.
Last evening Sunday 7/15/07 at 7:15 pm I hooked the biggest Wiper of my life and got my record back. It is the New Nevada State Record and New World LineClass record for 12 lb. test. (Pending)
Lahonton Res.
Wiper
25.38 lbs
36 1/2 inches
27 inch Girth
Caught on a Rapala Shad Rap
12 lb. test line (Stren Magna Thin)

It has been 2 years since I landed one of these beasts. I don't get many of these big ones to hit only about 1 - 2 per year and I have lost my last 4, but this was worth the wait. I custom painted a Rapala Shad Rap to make it look like a young Wiper, and it has worked very well for me this year. Lahonton Reservoir is just loaded with young Wipers. The Division of Wildlife told me that even though the Wiper is a hybrid and is sterile the Wiper has found a way to breed in this lake. There are thousands more then they ever put in this lake. You can go out this year and catch 100 - 200 Wipers in a afternoon of fishing all in the 4 - 6 inch range. This is the first Wiper I have caught at a deeper depth (12 feet), usually I hook them in 2 feet of water. This one hit close to the boat at full speed and the battle was on. For a while I didn't know if I was trying to reel him in or he was trying to pull me closer to him. The fight went on for 22 minutes from close to shore and out almost 200 yards to 68 feet deep. When the fish was finally exhausted my wife was ready with the net. Almost an hour after the fight and as I was having the fish weighed in my hands were still shaking.
Hope you enjoy this and good fishing.

Dan Hannum
